About Bart Beck

I started to work for the Clifton Engineering Company in February of 1950 and was assigned as General Foreman on a 44,000 volt, single pole, transmission line in the area of Onaway, Michigan which is in the upper part of the Lower Peninsula. I didn't know the first thing about building a power line, but as usual, I was willing to give it a go. That is terrible country, in the winter time, especially after having just come from an inside job. It was 30 degrees below zero on a couple of occasions and 10 below was not at all uncommon.

The Onaway project wound down in early June and it had been my intention to find something different, when that was finished, because I didn't like being away from home so much of the time. But, as things developed, I stayed on for almost thirty years and retired as the company's Vice President.
