THE BOILER ROOM
I was not directly concerned with the recovery process, however, I was involved with the output from the boilers. The recovery boiler was rated at 100,000 pounds of steam per hour, which means that, at full capacity, it could convert 100,000 pounds of water into steam at 650 pounds pressure and 750 degrees Fahrenheit, in one hour. It was also equipped to burn oil, but not oil and liquor at the same time.
The Bark Burner was rated at 60,000 pounds per hour with the same steam pressure and temperature characteristics as the recovery unit. It was fired with either oil or pulverized bark that came from the wood, before it went to the Chippers. That poor little boiler received more than it's share of grief during it's early life.
