There is much being said, and written, these days, about the Great Depression, a lot of it by people whose only knowledge of it is what has been written by other people who know nothing about it either. If you didn’t live through it, you know very little about what things were really like, at that time. I am not going to go into great detail about the depression, I only intend to relate a few of the things that affected me and possibly my family.
We knew our neighbors and neighbored with them. We had card parties and went to Grange meetings. We knew and enjoyed our friends, neighbors and family, in a way that is impossible now. No one was in a hurry because there was nothing to do when you got to the place that you were hurrying to get to.
